Anam Cara CPE Educator Presents at Spiritual Care Association Conference
Chaplain Justin Lansdowne presents on the art of soul care at the Spiritual Care Association’s 2026 national conference.

April 23, 2026 — Chaplain (Maj.) Justin Lansdowne, a Supervisor-Educator with Anam Cara CPE, presented at the Spiritual Care Association’s 2026 Caring for the Human Spirit Conference and Westberg Symposium, contributing to the national conversation on professional spiritual care.
Lansdowne presented “The Art of Soul Care: Lessons Learned from St. Martin of Tours and Sun Tzu,” a workshop exploring how spiritual caregivers can think more intentionally about not only being present, but discerning when and how to show up.
The presentation brought together two seemingly unlikely conversation partners. The story of St. Martin of Tours offered a model of timely and compassionate response, while insights from Sun Tzu were reframed around discernment, awareness, stewardship of energy, and responding wisely within complex environments. The session invited chaplains to consider a form of soul care that is both tender and intentional.

Lansdowne serves as a Supervisor-Educator with Anam Cara CPE, where he provides Clinical Pastoral Education and helps form students for professional spiritual care in diverse settings.
He also serves as a chaplain in the Minnesota National Guard. Lansdowne has served in the military since 1997 and has extensive experience in military spiritual care, including deployment and operational ministry. In a recent Minnesota National Guard feature, Lansdowne reflected on the evolving role of military chaplains—not only helping service members prepare for the possibility of death, but helping them learn how to fully live.
His presentation at the Spiritual Care Association conference reflects Anam Cara CPE’s commitment to educators who are not only teaching within the classroom, but actively contributing to the development of the broader profession of spiritual care.
